Commissions

Set up commission plans and read the commission statement, with clawback on credit notes.

Required permission: sales.configure

Before you begin

  • Setting up plans needs sales.configure. Reading the statement needs report.view.
  • Commission is calculated on request from posted invoices and credit notes. It is a statement only. The system does not book a commission expense or pay anyone ("Commission accrual" is shown as planned, not available yet).

Create a commission plan

  1. Open Sales > Configuration > Commission plans and press New plan.
  2. Enter a Code (up to 24 characters, stored upper-case, unique), for example COM-STD.
  3. Enter a Name.
  4. In Salesperson (blank: everyone) type the salesperson's user name exactly as it is recorded on the order, or leave it blank for a plan that applies to everyone.
  5. Enter Rate %: above 0 and up to 100, for example 2.5.
  6. Optionally set From and To. The plan applies to revenue dated inside that period.
  7. Press Save.

A repeated code is refused: 'Another plan has that code.' A rate of 0 or over 100: 'Enter a rate between 0 and 100 percent.'

Read the statement

  1. Open Sales > Reporting > Commissions.
  2. Set From and To (default: 1 January this year to today).
  3. Read the rows (Date, Document, Salesperson, Plan, Untaxed, Commission) and the totals per salesperson.

Worked example

A plan of 2.5% for everyone. In the month, posted invoices for one salesperson total AED 40,000.00 untaxed, and one credit note is AED 2,000.00 untaxed.

Untaxed AEDCommission AED
Invoices40,000.001,000.00
Credit note (clawback)-2,000.00-50.00
Total38,000.00950.00

The credit note appears as a negative row marked clawback.

What happens next

Nothing is posted. Use the statement as the basis for your payroll or payment process.

Good to know

  • A row appears only for revenue on an order that has a salesperson name stored. The salesperson shown on the order screen is the signed-in user and is not saved as the order's salesperson yet, so orders entered from the screen may not appear in the statement. Check your first statement against known invoices before relying on it.
  • The statement lists every salesperson to anyone with report.view, so colleagues' earnings are visible. Restrict that permission if payouts are confidential.
  • A plan with a name in the salesperson field only matches that exact name (the match ignores upper and lower case).
  • Plans are changed with the same screen; an edit conflict is reported if two people save at once.
