Set up Marketing for the first time
What to prepare, in order, before your team runs the first campaign.
Required permission: Marketing manager role (marketing.configure)
Before you begin
Decide who runs Marketing. The built-in Marketing manager role can do everything, including settings and ad accounts. Other people can be given only the view or edit permissions they need. Install Omnichannel too if you want leads captured from social channels and WhatsApp to be attributed to campaigns.
Steps
- Give people their roles in Administration > Roles. Permissions to know:
- marketing.view: the Dashboard and Marketing Settings (read).
- marketing.campaign.view and marketing.campaign.edit: campaigns, ad campaigns, ad sets, creatives and delivery.
- marketing.audience.view and marketing.audience.edit: audiences.
- marketing.consent.view and marketing.consent.edit: the consent records.
- marketing.automation.view and marketing.automation.edit: rules and journeys.
- marketing.analytics.view: Campaign ROI, Attribution and Conversion Tracking.
- marketing.configure: settings, ad accounts and the manual event scan.
- Open Marketing > Configuration > Marketing Settings. Choose the Attribution model and window, the reporting currency, how long consent lasts, and the audience defaults. See Configure Marketing settings and features.
- Open Marketing > Campaigns > Ad Accounts and add the advertising accounts you use. This needs both campaign edit and configure rights.
- Open Administration > Applications > Marketing > Features and Fields. Decide whether Automation and Attribution are on, and which campaign fields (description, end date, UTM tag, target leads) are shown, hidden or required.
- Record the consent you already hold: Marketing > Audiences > Consent. See Record and respect consent.
- Create your first audience: Build an audience.
- Create your first campaign: Plan a campaign and its structure.
What happens next
Campaign codes are numbered CMP-0001, CMP-0002 and so on for the company. A background scan runs about every ten minutes to record ERP events (new leads, quotations, orders, invoices, payments) and to move customer journeys along. A daily run handles time-based triggers such as invoice due, invoice overdue and customer inactive.
Good to know
- Everything is separated by company. One company never sees another's campaigns, consent or rules.
- Marketing and Omnichannel can be installed independently. If Marketing is not installed, the Marketing entries in the Omnichannel menu show a Not installed card.
- The Consent register and the core campaign and audience features are always on and cannot be switched off.
- Some screens show their buttons even when you lack the permission; the system then refuses with 'You do not have permission for this action.'
- The register forms use English labels in the Arabic screens for now.
