Correct your attendance

Ask for a correction when you forgot a punch, had the wrong time or worked in the field or remotely.

Required permission: ess.attendance_correction

Before you begin

  • The correction is for a day that has already happened (today or earlier).
  • Your manager needs the permission to approve corrections, and HR decides the second step, as set in the request workflow.

Steps

  1. Open Employee Self Service > Attendance > Calendar and click the day. In the dialog click Request correction. The date is filled in for you. You can also start from Requests.
  2. Choose the Correction: Missing check-in, Missing check-out, Wrong time, Wrong shift, Forgot break, Field duty or Remote work correction.
  3. Check the Date.
  4. Enter the Check-in time (needed for Missing check-in and Wrong time) or the Check-out time (needed for Missing check-out), as HH:MM, for example 18:10.
  5. Type the Reason, for example Forgot to tap out, left in a hurry.
  6. Click Submit.

The messages you may meet:

  • 'Correction is required.' when the type is empty.
  • 'A correction is for a day that has happened.' for a future date.
  • 'Say what time you checked in.' or 'Say what time you checked out.' when the time is missing.
  • 'Enter a valid time.' for a time such as 25:99.
  • 'Reason is required.'

What happens next

The request is numbered REQ-00001 style and starts in Manager Review. Your manager is notified. When the manager approves, it moves to HR Review, and HR approves it. Then the state is Completed.

A correction never edits your original punches. The system adds a correction punch (for example 18:10, source 'ESS approved correction'), marked as a correction, and rebuilds the day. Example: you checked in at 09:02 and forgot to check out. After approval the day shows check-in 09:02, check-out 18:10, worked 9 h 08 m. HR sees the same hours with a linked correction record.

You follow the progress on Requests. A request that is still waiting can be cancelled there. One that has been decided cannot.

Good to know

  • Only managers who hold the attendance-approval permission see it in Attendance Corrections. Nobody can approve their own correction.
  • The correction types Field duty and Remote work correction are the way to record work outside your permitted location when the geofence is enforced.
  • If the manager rejects, they must give a reason, and you are told with the note.
